Akron has a long history as a manufacturing giant of tires and rubber. The city’s nickname is the Rubber Capital of the World, and it’s home to the famous Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. Considering the city’s relationship with tires, it should come as no surprise that Akron drivers are among the best in the US.

The 2019 Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report ranked Akron as number 44 on a nationwide list of cities with the best drivers. That’s quite an accomplishment, considering that the list contains a total of 200 cities.

On average, Akron drivers go 10.6 years without filing any auto accident insurance claims. However, the Ohio State Highway Patrol has discovered that Summit County (the home of Akron) is showing an increase in traffic incidents.

So far in 2021, there have been 58 tickets received because of distracted driving. Compare that to 2020, in which there were only 23 distracted driving incidents for the entire year.

In 2019, Summit County experienced 31 traffic fatalities. In 2020, the number jumped to 50 traffic fatalities. Speeding, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and distracted driving are main accident causes.
