Athens is a popular college town in Georgia. It’s known for its music scene, having produced some famous bands such as R.E.M. and the B-52s. The city is full of historic Antebellum buildings that many couples use for wedding locations. Athens also attracts hundreds of tourists because of its proximity to Atlanta, Georgia.

Although it’s known simply as Athens, the city’s official name is Athens-Clarke County. The University of Georgia is located in the city, and is a major reason for its growth. There are currently 124,719 residents who call Athens home.

Although Athens is known as a beautiful and historic city, it has the distinction of having some of the worst drivers in Georgia. Based on its number of speeding tickets, DUIs, traffic fatalities, and auto accidents in general, Athens had 6,000 incidents in 2018.

If you’re in Athens, it would probably help to take a defensive driving course. You’ll decrease your chances of getting into an auto accident. You’ll improve your driving skills, and learn to become a safer driver. If more drivers took defensive driving courses, the streets of Athens would become safer for everyone.
