Joliet is a well-known city located in the Illinois counties of Will and Kendall. It’s the county seat for Will County, and is located just 40 miles southwest of Chicago. With a population of 149,395, Joliet is the third largest city in Illinois.

Joliet also has a special place in pop culture, as it’s been featured in several popular movies and television shows – including The Blues Brothers, Prison Break, and The Sting. Joliet is also known for some less pleasant facts – such as its number of traffic fatalities.

Will County, where Joliet is located, has more automobile crashes than most other counties in the state.

In 2017, more than 1,000 fatalities were attributed to automobile crashes. Illinois State Troopers say that distracted driving is a huge problem, followed by lack of seat belts, frequent lane changes, and drunk driving. The deadliest crash occurred in 2017, when a sleeping truck driver caused a crash that killed five people. Distracted driving, driving without a seat belt, and driving while sleepy are just a few things that can cause traffic fatalities.

If you’ve received a traffic ticket in Joliet, use it as an opportunity to take a defensive driving course. You just might get the ticket erased from your record. A defensive driving course will improve your driving skills, and make Joliet roads safer for everyone. It’s a win-win situation for everyone!
