Lowell is a city in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. It’s actually one of two county seats for Middlesex. The second county seat is Cambridge. Lowell has an estimated population of 111,306, and is the fifth largest city in the state as of 2018.

If you live in Massachusetts, then you should pay close attention when sharing the road with bicyclists and pedestrians. As of March 2021, there have been 14,797 traffic crashes in Massachusetts. There have also been 43 traffic fatalities. In addition to cars, pedestrians and bicyclists have been involved in traffic crashes.

As of March 2021, 175 pedestrians have been involved in car accidents. The number is much lower for bicyclists, who’ve had 44 run-ins with cars. It might surprise you to learn that about 2 percent of traffic fatalities involve cars and bicyclists. Head injuries are the deadliest type of injury for bicyclists.

Drivers don’t own the roads. Pedestrians and bicyclists use the streets as well. It’s important to watch out for everyone on the road – not just other cars.

A defensive driving course can remind you all about sharing the road with pedestrians and bicyclists. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to refresh your knowledge about the rules of the road. And if you’ve received a traffic ticket, then a defensive driving course might get the ticket dismissed.
