Sandy Springs is a city in Fulton County, Georgia. The city is also considered one of Atlanta’s inner suburbs. Sandy Springs has a population of 107,072 residents, which pales in comparison to the 488,800 residents of the surrounding city of Atlanta. Sandy Springs is practically in the middle of Atlanta. In all, that’s more than 500,000 people in a relatively small area. And as you can imagine, that makes for crowded roads and aggressive drivers.

The Georgia Department of Motor Vehicles reports that car crashes are the leading cause of deaths and injuries in Georgia. Car crashes are also the leading cause of ER visits and hospitalizations in Georgia.

In Fulton County alone, there were 45,944 car crashes in 2018. The county has also seen a rise in traffic fatalities. In 2014 there were 77 traffic fatalities, and that number has increased every year. In 2019, Fulton County had 144 traffic fatalities.

Traffic problems are expected when a huge population occupies a relatively small area. However, that doesn’t mean drivers can’t do what they can to develop safe driving habits.
