Springfield is the state capital of Illinois. The US Census Bureau estimates that the city has a population of 115,888 residents.

The city has several nicknames, including Flower City. It might surprise you to know that Abraham Lincoln lived in Springfield for 24 years. He wasn’t born there, but the city claims the former president as one of its own. Lincoln’s Springfield home is a historic site open for public tours.

Springfield has several other locations dedicated to Abraham Lincoln. These locations include the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library, the Lincoln Tomb, and the Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices State Historic Site. Springfield is proud of its former resident, but Lincoln probably wouldn’t feel very proud about his state’s driving record.

Springfield is located in Sangamon County, which averages over 5,000 traffic accidents per-year. The county also has around 20 fatalities per-year. And in the state of Illinois, there are close to 874 car crashes per-day. Those statistics are alarming.

Are you a Springfield resident facing a traffic ticket? Your local traffic court might dismiss your ticket if you enroll in a defensive driving course. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to ask about the possibility. You can get your ticket dismissed, and become a better driver.
