St. Paul is a city located in Ramsey County, Minnesota. Although Ramsey County is densely populated, it’s also the smallest county in the state. One thing most people know about Minnesota is it gets a significant amount of snow every year. Does the heavy snow affect Minnesota drivers?

From 2015 to 2019, icy roads and snowy conditions caused 78,335 traffic crashes in Minnesota. And in 2019, Ramsey County had a total of 9,219 crashes. Of those crashes, 2,455 were alcohol-related.

It’s clear that icy roads and snowy conditions can affect a person’s driving. However, most fatalities in Minnesota seem to occur in the summer months. But overall, there are more non-fatal crashes during winter months. It’s best to stay home when the roads are snowy or icy. Travel only when it’s absolutely necessary. Drive at a safe speed, and give yourself ample time to reach your destination. And stay at least five car-lengths away from snowplows.
