Tuscaloosa is a city in Alabama that serves as the county seat of Tuscaloosa County. The city has an estimated population of 99,390, and is the fifth largest city in Alabama.
Tuscaloosa was incorporated as a city in 1819. Its name was originally spelled as Tuskaloosa, until early in the 20th century. The town was named after Chief Tuskaloosa, who was the chief of a band of Muskogean-speaking people.
Tuscaloosa is the home of The University of Alabama, and its well-known Crimson Tide football team. The city is mostly known as a college town, and has plenty of activities and attractions for students.
Tuscaloosa County, where the city is located, has a high number of traffic accidents on record. In 2018, the county had 8,765 crashes, 27 traffic fatalities, and 2,327 non-fatal injuries. It’s not absolutely terrible, but it’s not great either.
