If you’re a West Valley City resident, then chances are you’re a safe driver. The city ranked as one of the safest Utah cities when it comes to driving. Cedar City, Tooele, Holladay, and Hurricane are the only Utah cities that outranked West Valley City.

The not-so-great news is traffic fatalities are on the rise in Utah overall. A 2020 report by the Utah Department of Transportation found that 102 people died during traffic fatalities from Memorial Day through Labor Day. During this same time in 2019, 61 people died.

Preventable behaviors caused most of these accidents. Drowsy driving, distracted driving, speeding, and not wearing a seat belt were the biggest contributors to the fatal crashes.

Millions of lives are lost per-year because of traffic accidents that are preventable. If more drivers would take care behind the wheel, then more lives would get saved per-year. If you’ve received a traffic ticket, consider taking a defensive driving course. Do your part to make the streets safer for everyone – drivers, bicyclists, pedestrians, and the entire state.
