According to a 2020 SmartAsset study, Massachusetts drivers have low rates of DUIs, traffic fatalities, and uninsured drivers. The study found that 93.8 percent of Massachusetts drivers were insured. And the number of DUI arrests went from 1.76 in 2019 to 1.67 in 2020. The state also saw a decline in traffic fatalities per 100 million miles driven.

The Fatality Analysis Reporting System by the US Department of Transportation revealed some interesting data as well. In 2018, Massachusetts had 343 fatal crashes. Those 343 fatal crashes caused 360 deaths. The majority of the fatalities were car occupants, but 78 pedestrians and 59 motorcyclists were killed as well.
