If you’re headed to the DMV to try and get your provisional license, you’re probably wondering how many questions are on the CA Permit test.  The written exam administered consists of 46 multiple choice questions as well as “true or false” questions.  The questions are based on things you will encounter everyday while driving a motor vehicle and the test is a way to determine basic driving aptitude.  Rules of the road, alcohol awareness, distracted driving awareness, road signs, and violations and fines are just a few of the question types you’ll encounter.  Nearly ¼ of all test questions administered are on signage you will see on your journeys.

How Many Questions Do I Need to Get Right to Pass My CA DMV Permit Test

To pass the CA DMV Permit Test you must answer 85% of your questions correctly.  To pass you must be accurate on 39 questions out of 46.  The exam costs $38.  You will have three attempts to pass your exam but cannot take the exam twice in any 7 day period.  That means that if you fail your permit exam the first time, you will have to wait a week to take it again.  Make sure to book your appointment with the California DMV to save time on the scheduling and waiting process that the DMV is notorious for.
