Salem is a city located in Marion County, Oregon. The city is the capital of Oregon, and it’s also the county seat for Marion. With a 2019 population of 169,259 residents, Salem is the second-largest city in Oregon.

If you’re a Salem, Oregon resident, then you might want to take extra care when driving. In 2018, Oregon had a total of 50,099 car crashes. That’s not a terrible number, considering the population was 4,182 million at the time. But it’s still beneficial to practice safe driving habits at all times. Out of those 50,099 crashes, 502 people were killed. And there were a total of 41,073 non-fatal injuries.

Most of the accidents were caused by drivers colliding with cars that were parked or stopped on the road. Failing to yield right of way, speeding, distracted driving, and loss of vehicle control caused a significant number of accidents, too.

Oregon has started an at-risk driver program for medical professionals. The program requires medical professionals to report patients that have functional or cognitive impairments that could affect driving ability. The program aims to make Oregon roads safer by reducing the number of unsafe drivers on the road.

A defensive driving course can possibly help your situation. If your state allows it, taking a defensive driving course can possibly get your ticket dismissed.
